Nichrome loops
he EM-Tec Nichrome loop is an ideal tool for handling and manipulation for EM sample preparation. Originally developed as inoculation loops for microbiology, loops are equally useful for handling small amounts of fluids and manipulation of thin tissue sections on TEM grids. The loop handle is made of nickel plated brass and can also be used as a long probe handle. The loop handle has a total length of 22.5 cm including a plastic grip of 10cm.
The nichrome loops are made from 0.5mm wire and are available in sizes from 2-5mm OD. Length is approximately 50mm. The 3 mm loop is compatible with standard TEM Grid dimensions with an OD of 3mm and an ID of 2mm. The composition of the 80/20 Nichrome wire used for loops is approx.: 77 % Ni, 21.5% Cr, 1.5% Si with a melting point of about 1400° C. Can be heated and sterilized.
